Exploring Australia Through Geography

This term in Geography we are looking at exploring Australian places.

We talked about Aboriginal Dreaming legends and explored the story of The Rainbow Serpent and how indigenous people believe the mountains, valleys and rivers were formed...

Darwyn did a terrific job as a leader for this activity where we looked at Google maps to find Australia and then zoomed in closer on our state of New South Wales, then the regional Sydney area, before zooming right in on Macarthur and finding our school's location on the map...

Jett did a wonderful job of leading us for this activity on the interactive whiteboard, where we were given different names of places around Australia and we had to drop a pin as close as we could to where we estimated their location on the map to be. It would then calculate for us how many kilometres away our dropped pin was from the actual location we were exploring...

We did pretty well with locating Bathurst / Orange on the map and only got 42km off the actual location!

Here's a link to the activity if you'd like to try it...

We then had Tiago as our wonderful leader for this activity where we got to choose different questions for Old Bernie to answer about the area where he lives and how it has changed over time from when he was a little boy, we listened to his answers and talked about our own experiences of places changing over time...

Here's a link to the activity...

Keep up the terrific work with your Geography skills 2G explorers!
